Brian Morton, Technical Director
It’s the vibrant energy of our team and the visionary leadership of new Owners and Managing Directors Andy Simpson and Mark Kent, explains Brian. As well as this, Brian’s professional ethos aligns with AWA’s, “we take clients on a journey, we are selective and pride ourselves on quality and exceptional service and I value this”.
Brian brings with him a remarkable portfolio of achievements including spearheading the design and project management of a 9-story hotel in central London which required significant planning metres away from the London underground. Another huge project was a large multi-bay steel warehouse in Southampton docks filled with high bay racking and automated forklifts on reclaimed land with all manner of poor ground conditions.
Having worked his way up from the drawing board, and with over 30 years of experience in design, project management and business development, Brian offers invaluable insights and a vast network of industry contacts to bolster our endeavours. He is passionate about historic buildings and has a deep sense of curiosity as to how they were built and thrives on the challenge of preserving architectural heritage while embracing modern functionality. His personal ambition is to become CARES accredited with the ISTructE, a very small and select group of go to engineers that are held on a register to deal with historic buildings.
As the structural engineering landscape evolves with sustainability and net zero carbon emissions, Brian sees opportunities for innovation and collaboration. In the advent of AI, he sees it as a useful tool that will assist in design, but it’s not infallible.
Outside the office, Brian’s adventurous spirit shines through his passion for cycling and golf, with feats like cycling the first leg of the Tour de France and conquering a 205-mile ride from East to West in a single day. He’s also jumped out of a plane for an amazing charity @kids who offer support for carers, which we think is commendable!
Balancing work and life, Brian believes in fostering a supportive work environment with realistic expectations. For aspiring engineers, his advice is simple: ask questions, never take anything for granted and earn respect by being true to yourself.
It’s great to have you back Brian!
