1. Lightweight
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) consist of a polystyrene insulation core sandwiched between engineered timber boards, known as Oriented Strand Board (OSB).
This composition results in panels that are significantly lighter than many traditional building materials, without compromising on strength or insulation performance. Their lightweight nature makes them particularly well-suited to projects in remote or difficult-to-access locations, as they are easier to handle, transport, and install.
2. Faster build times
SIPs can be assembled far more quickly than traditional materials such as masonry. Conventional methods typically involve multiple stages before insulation is added, whereas SIPs arrive with insulation already built in — streamlining the process and reducing delays.
Their lightweight design also means fewer workers are required for installation, further increasing efficiency on-site. In fact, projects that might take six months using traditional methods can often be completed in as little as three months with SIPs.
3. Energy efficient
SIPs offer excellent thermal performance, with panels available up to 200mm thick and built around a highly effective polystyrene foam core. This provides superior insulation compared to many traditional building methods.
Because the insulation layer is continuous, SIPs minimise thermal bridging — the heat loss that occurs when timber studs or other structural elements interrupt the insulation. By reducing these weak points, SIPs deliver consistent energy efficiency throughout the structure, making them an ideal choice for modern, energy-conscious homes.
4. Airtight
Traditional construction methods often leave gaps or joints between materials, allowing unwanted air leakage. SIPs, however, are precision-engineered to fit tightly together, creating a highly controlled building envelope.
This airtight construction minimises heat loss, improves thermal performance, and contributes to greater overall energy efficiency — helping to create comfortable, cost-effective, and sustainable homes.
5. Established team expertise
At AWA, our team has extensive experience in designing buildings with the SIPs system. We work closely with trusted SIPs manufacturers who ensure every panel is fabricated precisely according to our designs and delivered ready for assembly.
With a knowledgeable and well-established team guiding every step of the process, we make SIPs solutions accessible and straightforward for any project — from design through to on-site installation.
