Located in Romsey, Phase 2 of The Grange commercial development provides six self-contained, two-storey office units. Designed by Crafted Architects, the scheme offers flexible workspace ranging from approximately 1,300 to 5,500 sq ft. With a project cost of £1 million, the development supports local business growth by providing high-quality, adaptable office accommodation within an established commercial setting.
From AWA’s perspective, the most significant challenge was the site’s very weak peaty ground conditions, which required a carefully considered foundation solution. We implemented CFA piling alongside reinforced concrete ground beams to ensure adequate support. The steel-framed, masonry-clad superstructure incorporated precast concrete for both ground and first floors, improving build efficiency and floor quality. Additionally, concealed cross flat bracing within cavity walls was introduced to provide lateral stability while maintaining the architectural intent.
AWA also contributed to several key external and ancillary elements. We designed a 3-metre-high acoustic fence to address environmental considerations and enhance the usability of the site. The car park extension required a design that could accommodate level changes, which we resolved using gabion retaining structures, complemented by surface-mounted crash barriers for perimeter safety. These coordinated solutions ensured functionality across the development.
