Sun Street Hotel involved the sensitive restoration of a listed Georgian terrace in London, transforming it into a boutique 5-star hotel. The development blends historic character with contemporary luxury, offering high-end accommodation within a conservation area. The scheme required preserving original architectural features while introducing new spaces, including a mansard roof extension, to maximise usable floor area. The project contributes to the wider regeneration of Shoreditch, an area known for its mix of heritage buildings and modern design.
Working within a listed structure presented significant constraints, particularly around maintaining the integrity of existing fabric while enabling redevelopment. Foundation stabilisation was required due to structural movement, which included underpinning solutions to support existing walls and foundations safely. Careful sequencing and construction phasing were critical to ensure structural stability throughout the works, especially as new loads were introduced through the roof extension and internal reconfiguration.
The traditional mansard roof addition was designed to integrate seamlessly with the historic terrace while providing an open layout. Close collaboration with the contractor ensured that temporary works, sequencing, and permanent solutions aligned effectively.
