A quiet, elegant oak framed leisure pavilion nestled within the landscape, offering family recreation in harmony with the countryside.
Set within rolling countryside, this building is a private pool, gym and double-garage complex designed to sit discreetly alongside the client’s home. It provides a vaulted, light-filled swimming-pool space with generous glazing overlooking the landscape, along with a first-floor gallery gym and ground-floor changing facilities, pool entrance and garage. The aim was to give the family an elegant leisure facility that blends with its surroundings while offering practical amenities for swimming and exercise.
Our role on the project was to design all structural elements, from the reinforced-concrete swimming pool to the traditional green-oak frame. A key challenge was engineering the main oak frames without knee braces, enabling the architect’s vision for a clean, minimal aesthetic while maintaining adequate head height around the pool perimeter. The result is a space defined by openness, structural clarity and the warmth of exposed timber.
The design has produced a building that sits comfortably within its parkland setting. The pool house is clad in brick with a clay-tile roof, , and incorporates sliding doors and windows with slim grey frames. Internally, the substantial oak frame supports the vaulted roof over the pool, forming a central architectural feature. The structural approach therefore balances robust practicality, such as pool foundations and load-bearing demands, with a refined architectural ambition prioritising spaciousness.
