Primrose Farm is a striking residential project transforming a traditional hilltop farmhouse with a modern two-storey extension. The design embraces the surrounding landscape through expansive glazing and material choices, including charred Accoya cladding for a contemporary aesthetic. Its fully glazed single-storey section features a post-less sliding-door corner that creates a seamless connection between interior spaces and the rolling countryside, making uninterrupted views a defining element of the build.
We delivered the structural design for this ambitious extension. The open-plan layout, post-less glazed corners and cantilevered elements required a bespoke steel frame with complex geometry. Key challenges included designing transfer beams and cantilevers to support the glazed volumes while preserving transparency, plus a curved bedroom ceiling needing a precambered beam for performance and visual quality. Our engineering input turned the architectural vision into a buildable, open, and refined structure.
The completed extension demonstrates how sensitive engineering can enable bold architectural ideas.
