The Emsworth Medical Practice project was a strategic redevelopment of the former Victoria Cottage Hospital into a modern, purpose-built GP surgery. The £3.5 million scheme was driven by the need to replace the practice’s cramped, outdated premises with facilities capable of supporting an expanding patient list and delivering a broader range of primary care services. The new building, overseen by NHS Property Services replaces the previous site and enhances healthcare delivery in the heart of Emsworth.
AWA provided structural design expertise for significant alterations and development included integrating new exposed steelwork canopies, rear extensions, and mansard roof modifications to create more functional internal spaces. Mountjoy led the construction, overcoming challenges including pandemic-related material shortages and site restrictions. The works involved also included a new lift shaft, reconfiguration of clinical and support areas, and comprehensive internal and external finishes to deliver a high-quality healthcare environment.
Since the revitalised medical practice opened, it has become a central healthcare hub for local residents, providing light, spacious treatment rooms and improved access for patients and staff. Local stakeholders highlight its contribution to community wellbeing, noting that the enhanced facility supports current needs and offers flexibility for future healthcare delivery.
