Hambledon Vineyard sought to create a premier destination for wine enthusiasts, combining a high-quality restaurant with immersive wine experiences. The project emphasised sustainability and local character, reflecting the estate’s heritage. The restaurant was designed to set a new benchmark for UK wine tourism, offering visitors an elegant dining environment with close connection to the vineyard surroundings.
AWA delivered the structural design for the project, including the bespoke green oak frame, balancing aesthetics, durability, and environmental performance. The basement, winery, storage facilities, and dining areas were designed to integrate seamlessly with the architect’s vision, ensuring structural integrity while highlighting natural materials. Attention to detailing ensured that the handcrafted spiral staircase leading to the Cellar Door Shop complemented the overall design, creating a unique and inviting journey for visitors.
The Cellar Door Shop, located beneath the restaurant, provides a curated selection of Hambledon Wines, merchandise, and local produce. AWA’s work extended to the external works, ensuring the landscaping and circulation supported both operational efficiency and visitor enjoyment. The project demonstrates the impact of thoughtful structural engineering in enhancing visitor experience while maintaining sustainability and craftsmanship at its core.
